In 2006, the Enrichment Technology group became a joint venture between
Urenco and
Areva This move has enabled us to stabilise our business structure and given us the capacity to develop our order book in the long term.
This move has also enabled us to move significantly closer to fulfilling our mission, which is to be the supplier of choice for uranium enrichment technology, throughout the global nuclear energy industry.
This development has already begun - although in the past Enrichment Technology has supplied design and project management services to customers other than Urenco, we have now started to manufacture for them as well.
New customers
Enrichment Technology is now providing cascades for Areva’s Georges Besse II project at Tricastin in France (GBII), which will provide for the supply of a 7,500 tSW/a facility as a replacement for the Areva gas diffusion plant.
A similar agreement is now in place to supply the National Enrichment Facility (NEF). Under this agreement, Enrichment Technology will supply cascades for a proposed 3,000 tSW/a capacity enrichment plant to be constructed by the Urenco Group in the US. Site construction and cascade delivery from Enrichment Technology will start once the license for the NEF plant has been granted by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Expanding demand
Enrichment Technology continues to seek further opportunities to take advantage of its world-leading centrifuge technology as the market develops. The enrichment market is evolving, encouraging our customers to develop their enrichment capacities further and at a faster rate.
Increased demand for new enrichment capacities or the replacement of existing diffusion technology plants (especially in Europe and in the USA) requires Enrichment Technology to ensure we can provide greater capacity and flexibility.
